GHOST STREET

Lighting the shadows of Ghost Street, where intimate design meets culinary performance.

Ghost Street in Britomart is a striking example of how architecture and lighting can come together to create a deeply immersive experience. Designed by Cheshire Architects, this project reimagines the vibrant, hole-in-the-wall eateries of Beijing’s famous food streets. The restaurant is nestled in a 140-year-old heritage building, and its design emphasizes the contrast between light and shadow, evoking a theatrical atmosphere that transports diners to a hidden, almost subterranean world.

At the prestigious Best Design Awards, Ghost Street received high praise for its international appeal and rich, sensory experience. The judges commended the project’s cohesive use of lighting, materials, and layout, noting that the restaurant felt like a beautifully crafted narrative.

The restaurant’s design was also celebrated for its attention to detail. Everything from the ink-covered calligraphy walls to the carefully curated relics that adorn the space was handcrafted and tailored to embody the essence of a classic Beijing food street. This blend of cultural homage and modern sophistication allowed Ghost Street to stand out as a uniquely immersive dining experience, further solidifying its place as a Best Awards winner

Targetti NZ played an integral role in translating Cheshire Architects’ design vision into reality.
